I work with words and paddles

Job Entrepreneur, writer and sea kayaking guide / Portland Paddle

Lives In Munjoy Hill

I split my time between freelance writing and running Portland Paddle, a business that offers sea kayaking and paddleboarding at the East End Beach. Portland is a great place for both writing and paddling. The city is buzzing with creative energy, with photographers, literary folks and artists everywhere. And the natural beauty of Maine is so nicely woven into the urban fabric of the city that it's remarkably easy to find places with an edge of wildness within a short walk, bike or paddle of the peninsula.

Why did you choose Portland? Maine is my home state. Like most native Mainers, I left during my twenties and eventually realized how much I love the place. And while the small town where I grew up is too small for me now, Portland is just the right size.

What do you like to do with out-of-towners? I love paddling out to the magical, beautiful islands of Casco Bay with visitors and exploring the the city's many great trails, especially those in the Fore River Sanctuary and along the Presumpscot River.
