Lives In Peaks Island

A Maine native, I didn't grow up in Portland, but I've lived here longer than anywhere else so I consider myself "from" Portland. I've lived Down East, in Central Maine, and on the border in Jackman. I'm a dual-degree alumni from the University of Southern Maine and administrated the Women and Gender Studies Program for thirteen years. In 2017, I joined the team at 75 State Street (Senior and Assisted Living). My volunteerism includes being a steering committee member for the Gaslight League (a social club organized to benefit Victoria Mansion, a National Historic Landmark) and a Victoria Mansion Trustee. In my spare time I bake a lot, plan/attend parties, organize a book club, and design costumes.

Why did you choose Portland? Came for college and never left.

Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? Changes with the seasons! Winter: the Bramhall Pub & the Bar of Chocolate. Spring: Baxter Blv. Summer: Hot Suppa for $1 oyster happy hours or the Bayside rooftop bar. Fall: Deering Oaks Park and the North Point.

What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? My favorite indulgence is actually in Scarborough, but its worth the drive! The Cheese Iron on Rt. 1; fromagerie heaven.

What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? Every night there are eight things happening that sound like fun.

Describe your perfect night—and the following morning—in Portland. Listening to live music on the Portland Lobster Co. patio followed by a meal at Empire (amazing food, even better service) and then if we have room (and we won't) a dessert at the Bar of Chocolate. The next day get up early for bagels (to beat the crowds) at Scratch Baking Co. in South Portland and hit Willard Beach.

Do you have a serendipity spot? Where do you always bump into good people? Walking down the street! Just by walking around I bump into tons people I know–coworkers, friends, out of towners–Portland is the biggest small town, its wonderful.
