Devon Platte

From Concept to Completion, I bring cocktail napkins to life on screen ... both my own (Missionary) and others (Mercenary)!

Job TV Producer / Showrunner / Content Creator / Freelance

Lives In Munjoy Hill

I'm a veteran factual TV producer/writer/director/showrunner/content creator. A Los Angeles native, I grew up in California and Hawaii, and now happily split time between SoCal and Portland's Munjoy Hill. So far the work has taken me to all 50 American states, and 6 of 7 continents on earth. But not quite Antarctica … yet.  ;-)

Over the years I've conceived/developed/produced non-fiction series programming for ABC, NBC ("America's Toughest Job," "Treasure Hunters"), CBS ("Amazing Race"), FOX, History Channel ("Chasing Mummies," "American Hard Hat"), Audience Network ("Religion of Sports"), Nat Geo Channel, Discovery Channel ("The Wheel," "American Tarzan", "Bone Detectives"), Discovery I.D. ("Homicide Hunter"), Destination America ("Haunted Towns"), Travel Channel, Outdoor Life Channel ("Beyond the Summit: Everest"), Food Network ("Great Food Truck Race"), TBS, PBS, Esquire Network ("The Runner Up"), VH1, World Wrestling Entertainment ("Breaking Ground"), YouTube Red, Red Bull, and probably a few others that I'm probably forgetting right now.

But around here I'm pretty much known as "The guy who invented North Woods Law" for Animal Planet. And now "Puckland" sports docu-series featuring Maine Mariners hockey team (NBCSports.com), too!

Why did you choose Portland? Well, it kind of chose me, actually. Chuckle, long story....

Who are Portlanders you admire and why? All the other local filmmakers I work with on a regular basis -- Joe Brunette, Heeth Grantham, Eric Mofford, Rob Sylvain, Corey Norman, etc. Wicked talented gang, for sure!

What do you like to do with out-of-towners? The ferry ride to Peaks Island is always fun. So are Portland Sea Dogs games and Maine Mariners games. And sometimes, hop on the Downeaster to the Green Line to Fenway Park!

Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? Walking and peddling around town. We live on Munjoy Hill, so we walk everywhere in the area -- East End, West End, Old Port, Back Cove, etc. Lots of nooks and crannies to explore via foot and bike!

What's the most surprising thing about this city? Fort Gorges. Now why isn't that a "working park" of some sort? National/state/city... whatever. What a cool little spot that is ... and COULD be even better. As an example, check out Fort Jefferson down in Florida - 68 miles off the coast of Key West, and amazing!

What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? Pizza and ice cream! Everywhere from Otto's to Portland Pie Company to Beals to DQ. All way better than SoCal!

What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? Please see other answer re: Fort Gorges. Also PWM... nice little airport, and so accessible!

Describe your perfect night—and the following morning—in Portland. Please see "Happy Place" entry... and add "dinner" at one of Portland's many restaurants.

Do you have a serendipity spot? Where do you always bump into good people? Yep, our back deck on a summer day, with a cold beer/s, overlooking everything, and watching the sun go down over Back Cove.
