Working to build Portland's tech economy

Job Software development manager / PowerPay

Lives In Parkside

I manage a software development department in downtown Portland, building web applications that facilitate relationships between merchants and credit card processors. Otherwise I spend my time sailing, skiing, and plotting new creative ventures.

I moved here from Brooklyn in 2003 and never looked back - and the few times I moved away in search of new adventures, I always found myself coming back. The quality of life here is outstanding, and the career opportunities are growing. I'd like to see our city start to attract developers, systems engineers, and other IT professionals to help take our tech economy to the next level.

Why did you choose Portland? Portland chose me. I came here to do a program at the Salt Institute and knew immediately that I was home. In those 10+ years, I've watched Portland grow in leaps and bounds. It just keeps getting better, and the opportunities keep expanding.

Who are Portlanders you admire and why? I admire the many entrepreneurs who have taken chances, worked hard, and asked what they could do to make this city a better place to live.

What do you like to do with out-of-towners? The walking tour, the bar tour, the restaurant tour, the lighthouse tour, and a sail on Casco Bay.

Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? The Eastern Prom.

What's the most surprising thing about this city? Being able to leave work at 5 and be on your boat by 5:10.

What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? The old reliables: Silly's Restaurant on the East End, Ruski's on the West End.

Do you have a serendipity spot? Where do you always bump into good people? The Wednesday farmers' market in Monument Square.
