Beyond the Basics for Creatives
The "Beyond the Basics for Creatives" mini series will begin on Wednesday May 8th and continue until August 14th.
Presented by Creative Portland, Maine College of Art (MECA), and Maine Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts with generous funding by the Quimby Family Foundation.
The first session, “Being a Professional: Responsibilities & Expectations,” will be held Wednesday, May 8. Attendees will learn about networking, relationship building, how to elevate their profiles as artists, how to develop a business and studio plan.
All sessions take place the second Wednesday of the month from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Osher Hall at MECA. Admission is free for current students, alumni, faculty, and staff. The fee for all others is $10.Future sessions on more advanced concepts for creatives are:
MAY 8 : Being a Professional: Responsibilities & Expectations
Practical resources, goal setting and planning techniques to elevate your artist profile.
JUNE 12 : Contracts for Creatives
Understanding and managing sales and service agreements including commission, consignment and licensing.
JULY 10 : Feeding Your Studio Practice
Evaluating technical and professional opportunities including residencies, studio environment, and education.
AUGUST 14 : Going Big
The implications of growing as an artist and art based business including fabrication, production, sourcing, and staffing.
