Lives In The West End
The following statements about me, Jay Sacher, are true:
I am not currently under investigation by a Senate sub-committee.
I believe that when you listen to Neil Young, you have to turn up the sound.
I will never, ever, ever root for any major league sports team from New England.
I tend to eat a lot of quesadillas.
I like baseball a lot, but I think football is pretty stupid.
For some reason, I follow Ringo Starr on twitter.
Who are Portlanders you admire and why? Good ol' Chelsea Holden Baker DeLorme, the good folks at Space Gallery, and the staff and volunteers at The Telling Room--they are all enthusiasts and warm, smart, welcoming folks who do tons of good for the culture of this town.
What do you like to do with out-of-towners? Ferry rides to Peaks Island, baked goods at the Standard, coffee at Tandem, and rides up the coast.
Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? Tandem Coffee in East Bayside. Best dang cup of brew you're going to find, and good people.
What's the most surprising thing about this city? Everybody has a vanity license plate. It's a mystifying phenomenon.
What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? The beef panang at Boda never disappoints.
What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? Reny's. It's the old school department store of your dreams. Crazy deals, crazy assortment of clothes, home goods, knickknacks and sundries.
